നാഷണൽ സെന്റർ ഫോർ ബയോടെക്‌നോളജി ഇൻഫർമേഷൻ, National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), അമേരിക്കയിലെ നാഷണൽ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ഹെൽത്തിന്റെ (NIH) ഉപവിഭാഗമായ നാഷണൽ ലൈബ്രറി ഓഫ് മെഡിസിന്റെ (NLM) ഭാഗമാണ്. Bethesda, Marylandൽ ആണ് NCBI സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. 1988ൽ സെനറ്റർ Claude Pepperടെ ധനസഹായത്തോടെയാണ് ഇത് സ്ഥാപിതമായത്.
ജൈവസാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയും ബയോമെഡിസിനുമായും ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കുറെയധികം ഡാറ്റാബേസുകൾ NCBI-ൽ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്നു. GenBank, പബ്മെഡ്, NCBI Epigenomics എന്നിവയാണ് അവയിൽച്ചിലത്‌ . Entrez എന്ന സേർച്ച് എൻജിൻ വഴി ഇവയെല്ലാം ലഭ്യമാണ്.[1][2]
GenBank തിരുത്തുക
GenBank DNA sequence database ലഭ്യമാക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്തം 1992 മുതൽ NCBI ക്കാണ്.[3] GenBank European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), DNA Data Bank of Japan (DDBJ) എന്നിവയുമായി ചേർന്ന് പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു.[4]
1992 മുതൽ NCBI Gene, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, Molecular Modeling Database (3D protein structures), dbSNP (single-nucleotide polymorphisms), Reference Sequence Collection, Map of the human genome, taxonomy browser എന്നീ ഡാറ്റാബാസുകളും ലഭ്യമാക്കുന്നു. കൂടാതെ National Cancer Institute ഉമായിച്ചേർന്ന് Cancer Genome Anatomy Project ഉം ലഭ്യമാക്കുന്നു. ഓരോ സ്പീഷീസിനും സവിശേഷ തിരിച്ചറിയൽ നമ്പറും NCBI ക്രമീകരിക്കുന്നു.[5]

"NCBI Bookshelf" ൽ സൗജന്യമായി എടുക്കാവുന്ന ധാരാളം ബയോമെഡിക്കൽ പുസ്തകങ്ങളുണ്ട്; molecular biology, ജൈവരസതന്ത്രം, cell biology, ജനിതകശാസ്ത്രം, സൂക്ഷ്മജീവശാസ്ത്രം, virology തുടങ്ങിയ വിഷയങ്ങളിപ്പെട്ട പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ.[6]
