ഡോറിസ് ഹോവൽ
പീഡിയാട്രിക് ഓങ്കോളജിയിൽ പ്രത്യേകത പരിചയം സിദ്ധിച്ച ഒരു അമേരിക്കൻ ഫിസിസ്റ്റാണ് ഡോറിസ് ഹോവൽ. അവർ പാലിയേറ്റീവ് കെയറിലെ പയനിയറിംഗ് ജോലികൾക്ക് "mother of hospice" എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടു.

ഗവേഷണവും കരിയറും തിരുത്തുക
1955-ൽ, ഡ്യൂക്ക് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി സ്കൂൾ ഓഫ് മെഡിസിനിൽ ഹോവൽ ഫാക്കൽറ്റിയിൽ ചേർന്നു. പീഡിയാട്രിക് ക്യാൻസർ രോഗികൾക്കൊപ്പം അവർ ജോലി ചെയ്തു. കൂടാതെ പീഡിയാട്രിക് ഓങ്കോളജിസ്റ്റായി നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.[1] പീഡിയാട്രിക് ഹെമറ്റോളജി-ഓങ്കോളജിയിൽ അവൾ ഒരു വിഭാഗം വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുത്തു.[1] ഡ്യൂക്കിൽ, ഹോവെൽ അവരുടെ അധ്യാപനത്തിന്റെ പേരിൽ പ്രകീർത്തിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. രണ്ട് തവണ അദ്ധ്യാപനത്തിനുള്ള വിശിഷ്ട അവാർഡ് ലഭിച്ചു.[1] അവരുടെ ആദ്യത്തെ ഗവേഷകനായ ഫിലിപ്പ് ലാൻസ്‌കോവ്‌സ്‌കി സ്റ്റോണി ബ്രൂക്ക് യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ പീഡിയാട്രിക് മെഡിസിൻ ചെയർ ആയി.
പെൻസിൽവാനിയയിലെ വുമൺസ് മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിന്റെ അന്നത്തെ പ്രസിഡന്റായിരുന്ന മരിയൻ ഫെയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഒരു ഫോൺ കോളിന് ശേഷം, ഹാവലിന് പീഡിയാട്രിക്സ് മേധാവിയായി ഒരു സ്ഥാനം വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തു. അവർ 1970-ൽ പെൻസിൽവാനിയയിലെ മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് (ഇപ്പോൾ ഡ്രെക്സൽ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി കോളേജ് ഓഫ് മെഡിസിൻ) ലേക്ക് മാറി. ആ വർഷം തന്നെ ഈ വർഷത്തെ വിശിഷ്ട പൂർവ്വവിദ്യാർത്ഥിയായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. അങ്ങനെ നാമകരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ആദ്യത്തെ വനിതയായി.[2]
