ചാൾസ് ബാക്ക്മൻ
ചാൾസ് വില്ല്യം 'ചാർളി' ബാക്ക്മൻ III (ജനനം: ഡിസംബർ 11, 1924 മരണം: ജൂലൈ 13, 2017) ഒരു അമേരിക്കൻ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനാണ്. അക്കാദമികമേഖലയേക്കാൾ അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ ജോലിയുടെ മുഴുവൻ സമയവും വ്യവസായ ഗവേഷകൻ, മാനേജർ എന്നീ നിലകളിലാണ് പ്രവർത്തിച്ചത്. ഡാറ്റാബേസ് മാനേജ്മെന്റ് സിസ്റ്റങ്ങളുടെ ആദ്യകാല വികസനത്തിലെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്കാണ് അദ്ദേഹം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ layered architecture ന്റെ മാർഗ്ഗങ്ങളിൽ മാക്ക്മൻ ഡയഗ്രവും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.

ജീവചരിത്രം തിരുത്തുക
1934ൽ കാൻസാസിലെ മാൻഹാട്ടനിലാണ് ചാൾസ് മാക്ക്മൻ ജനിച്ചത്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അച്ഛൻ ചാൾസ് ബാക്ക്മൻ ജെആർ കൻസാസ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് കോളേജിന്റെ പ്രധാന ഫുട്ബോൾ കോച്ചായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം മിഷികണിലെ ഈസ്റ്റ് ലാൻസിംഗ് ഹൈസ്ക്കൂളിൽ ചേർന്നു.
രണ്ടാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധസമയം അദ്ദേഹം അമേരിക്കൻ നാവികസേനയിൽ ചേർന്ന് മാർച്ച് 1944 മുതൽ ഫെബ്രുവരി 1946 വരെ തെക്ക്- പടിഞ്ഞാറ് പസഫിക്ക് തിയേറ്ററിൽ ന്യൂ ഗിനിയ, ഓസ്ട്രേലിയ, ഫിലിപ്പീൻസ് ദ്വീപുകൾ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ Anti-Aircraft Artillery Corps ൽ സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു. അവിടെ വെച്ചാണ് അദ്ദേഹം 90മി.മി തോക്കുകളെ ഉന്നം വെയ്ക്കാൻ വേണ്ടിയുള്ള ഫയർ കൺട്രോൾ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറുകളെ അടുത്തറിയുന്നതും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതും.
പ്രവൃത്തി തിരുത്തുക
1950 മുതൽ അദ്ദേഹം മിഷിഗണിലെ മിഡ്‌ലാന്റിലുള്ള ഡൗ കെമിക്കലിൽ ജോലിചെയ്യാൻ ആരംഭിച്ചു. 1957 ൽ ഡൗവിന്റെ ആദ്യ ഡാറ്റാപ്രോസസ്സിംഗ് മാനേജറായി. IBM ന്റെ യൂസർ ഗ്രൂപ്പായ SHARE നോടു ചേർന്ന് 9PAC എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെട്ട റിപ്പോർട്ടിംഗ് ജനറേറ്റർ സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയറിന്റെ പുതിയ വകഭേദം വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കാൻ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. എങ്ങനെയാനെങ്കിലും പദ്ധതിയിട്ട IBM 709 അത് എത്തുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് തന്നെ അതിന്റെ ഓർഡർ റദ്ദാക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
