ഗോവ മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ്
ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഗോവയിലെ ഒരു സർക്കാർ മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജും ആശുപത്രിയുമാണ് ഗോവ മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് (ജിഎംസി). ഏഷ്യയിലെ ഏറ്റവും പഴയ മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജുകളിൽ ഒന്നാണിത്.

പതിനാറാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ അവസാന ദശകങ്ങൾ മുതൽ ഗോവയെ 1st കൗണ്ട് ഓഫ് അൽവോർ വൈസ്രോയ് ഫ്രാൻസിസ്കോ ഡി ടാവോറയുടെ പ്രയോഗശൈലിയിൽ "പോർച്ചുഗീസുകാരുടെ ശ്മശാനം" എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടു. ജനസംഖ്യയുടെ സാന്ദ്രത കണക്കിലെടുത്ത് പഴയ ഗോവയുടെ അനാരോഗ്യം പ്രകടമായിരുന്നു. ശുചിത്വക്കുറവും വൈദ്യ പരിചരണവും ഇല്ലാത്തതായിരുന്നു അത്. അതുവരെ പോർച്ചുഗീസ് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഡോക്ടർമാർ അപൂർവമായിരുന്നു.
1691-ൽ ഗോവയിലെ മെഡിക്കൽ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിന്റെ ഗതി ആരംഭിച്ചു. [5]പതിനെട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ [5] വൈസ് കിങ് ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യ റോഡ്രിഗോ ഡാ കോസ്റ്റയുടെ അഭ്യർത്ഥനയിൽ നിന്ന് "ചീഫ് ഫിസിസ്റ്റ്" (ഒരു പ്രദേശത്തിന്റെ പൊതുജനാരോഗ്യ മേധാവിയായി നിയമിതരായ ഡോക്ടർമാർക്ക് നൽകിയ പേര്) മനോയൽ റോയിസ് ഡി സൂസ ഒരു "മെഡിസിൻ ക്ലാസ്" ആരംഭിച്ചു.[6]കോയിംബ്രയിൽ ബിരുദം നേടിയ പ്രധാന ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായ അന്റോണിയോ ഹോസെ ഡി മിറാൻഡ ഇ അൽമേഡയുടെ താല്പര്യപ്രകാരം 1801-ൽ പോർച്ചുഗീസ് രാജാവ്‌ "മെഡിസിൻ ആന്റ് സർജറി ക്ലാസ്" സ്ഥാപിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. ഡോക്ടർ ഗോവയിൽ നിന്ന് പോയ 1815 വരെ ഈ കോഴ്‌സ് പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു.[7][8]
എന്നിരുന്നാലും, 1842 നവംബർ 5 ന് മാത്രമാണ് "മെഡിക്കൽ-സർജിക്കൽ സ്കൂൾ ഓഫ് ഗോവ" യുടെ കൃത്യമായ തുടക്കം ലഭിച്ചത്. 1851 ഡിസംബർ 11 ന് ശേഷം ഈ സ്ഥാപനം പ്രവർത്തനക്ഷമമായി.[9] ഒരു മന്ത്രിതല റിപ്പോർട്ടിലൂടെയും അനുബന്ധ ഉത്തരവിലൂടെയും കൊളോണിയൽ സർക്കാർ ഗോവയിൽ മാത്രം അവശേഷിക്കുന്ന ചില മെഡിക്കൽ സ്കൂളുകളെ പൂർണ്ണമായി നശിപ്പിച്ചു. [10] ഈ കാലയളവിൽ 1,327 ഡോക്ടർമാരെയും 469 ഫാർമസിസ്റ്റുകളെയും ഇത് സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു.[11][12][13][14]
