ഗുട്ടൻബർഗ് ബൈബിൾ
യൂറോപ്പിൽ വൻതോതിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച ചലിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്ന ലോഹം ഉപയോഗിച്ച ആദ്യത്തെ പ്രധാന അച്ചടി പുസ്തകമായിരുന്നു ഗുട്ടൺബർഗ് ബൈബിൾ (42-വരി ബൈബിളും Mazarin Bible അഥവാ B42 എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു). ഇത് "ഗുട്ടൻബർഗ് വിപ്ലവവും" പടിഞ്ഞാറ് അച്ചടിച്ച പുസ്തകങ്ങളുടെ വയസ്സും അടയാളപ്പെടുത്താൻ ആരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. വിലമതിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുസ്തകമായി കണ്ടുകൊണ്ട് ഇതിൻറെ ഉയർന്ന ഭംഗിയും കലാപരമായ ഗുണങ്ങളെയും ബഹുമാനിച്ചിരുന്നു. [1] കൂടാതെ ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിന് ചരിത്രപരമായ ഒരു പ്രാധാന്യവുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇന്നത്തെ ജർമ്മനിയിലെ മെയിൻസിൽ ജോഹന്നാസ് ഗുട്ടൻബെർഗ് 1450 കളിൽ അച്ചടിച്ച ലാറ്റിൻ വൾഗേറ്റിന്റെ പതിപ്പാണിത്. നാൽപത്തിയൊമ്പത് പകർപ്പുകൾ (അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പകർപ്പുകളുടെ ഗണ്യമായ ഭാഗങ്ങൾ) നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. 1978 മുതൽ സമ്പൂർണ്ണ പകർപ്പുകളൊന്നും വിറ്റില്ലെങ്കിലും ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും മൂല്യവത്തായ പുസ്തകങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് ഇവയെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.[2][3] 1455 മാർച്ചിൽ, ഭാവിയിലെ പയസ് രണ്ടാമൻ മാർപ്പാപ്പ, പതിപ്പ് പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി ഫ്രാങ്ക്ഫർട്ടിൽ പ്രദർശിപ്പിച്ച ഗുട്ടൻബർഗ് ബൈബിളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പേജുകൾ കണ്ടതായി എഴുതി. എത്ര കോപ്പികൾ അച്ചടിച്ചുവെന്ന് അറിയില്ല. 158, 180 പകർപ്പുകൾക്കുള്ള തെളിവുനൽകുന്നു. രണ്ടാമത്തെ അച്ചടിച്ച ബൈബിൾ എന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്ന 36-ലൈൻ ബൈബിളിനെ ചിലപ്പോൾ ഗുട്ടൻബർഗ് ബൈബിൾ എന്നും വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്. പക്ഷേ ഇത് മറ്റൊരു പ്രിന്ററിന്റെ സൃഷ്ടിയാകാം.
