തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലെ കമുതിയിലുള്ള 2,500 acres (10 km2) വിസ്താരമുള്ള ഒരു സൗരോർജ്ജനിലയമാണ് കമുതി സൗരോർജ്ജനിലയം (Kamuthi Solar Power Project).[1] അദാനി പവർ ആണ് ഇത് നിർമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.[2] ഒറ്റയിടത്ത് 648 MW വൈദ്യുതി ഉൽപ്പാദിപ്പിക്കാൻ പറ്റുന്ന ഈ നിലയത്തിന് വലിപ്പത്തിൽ ലോകത്തിൽ രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനമുണ്ട്.[3][4]

2016 ജൂൺ 13 ന് ഇതിനെ നാഷണൽ ഗ്രിഡുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കാൻ ABB 5 സബ്‌സ്റ്റേഷനുകൾ കമ്മീഷൻ ചെയ്യുകയുണ്ടായി.[5][6] 2016 സെപ്തംബർ 21 -ന് പൂർത്തിയായ ഈ നിലയത്തിന് 4,550 കോടി (US$710 million) ചെലവായിട്ടുണ്ട്.[7] 25 ലക്ഷം സോളാർ മൊഡ്യൂളുകൾ, 380000 അടിത്തറകൾ, 27,000 മീറ്റർസ്ട്രക്ചറുകൾ, 576 ഇൻവേറ്ട്ടറുകൾ, 154 ട്രാൻസ്ഫോമറുകൾ എന്നിവ കൂടാതെ 6000 കിലോമീറ്റർ കേബിളുകൾ എന്നിവ ഈ നിലയത്തിന് ആവശ്യമായി വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്.[8][9] പാനലുകൾ സ്ഥാപിക്കാനുള്ള സ്ട്രക്ചറുകൾക്ക് 30000 ടൺ ഗാൽവനൈസ്‌ഡ് ഇരുമ്പ് വേണ്ടിവന്നു.[10] 8 മാസം കൊണ്ട് തീർക്കുന്നതിനായി 8,500 ജോലിക്കാർ ഓരോ ദിവസവും 11 MW വൈദ്യുതിയ്ക്ക് ആവശ്യമായ പാനലുകൾ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരുന്നു.[11][12]

നിലയം മുഴുക്കേ ഒരു 400 KV സബ്‌സ്റ്റേഷനുമായി യോജിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്.[13] ഒരു റോബോട്ട് സംവിധാനം പാനലുകളെ എന്നും വൃത്തിയാക്കുകയാണ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്.[14]

അവിടത്തെ ദൈനംദിനം ലഭിക്കുന്ന 5.5-6.0 kWh/m2 സൗരോർജ്ജത്തിന്റെ അളവ് വച്ചുനോക്കിയാൽ വർഷംതോറും 1.3 TWh വൈദ്യുതി ഉണ്ടാക്കൽ സാധ്യമാണ്.[15]
