എഡ്ന സെന്റ് വിൻസെന്റ് മില്ലെ

എഡ്ന സെന്റ് വിൻസെന്റ് മില്ലെ (ജീവിതകാലം: ഫെബ്രുവരി 22, 1892 - ഒക്ടോബർ 19, 1950) ഒരു അമേരിക്കൻ ഭാവഗാനരചയിതാവും നാടകകൃത്തുമായിരുന്നു.[2] 1923-ൽ കവിതയ്ക്കുള്ള പുലിറ്റ്‌സർ പുരസ്കാരം ലഭിച്ച മില്ലെ ഈ വിഭാഗത്തിൽ പുരസ്കാരം നേടിയ മൂന്നാമത്തെ വനിതയെന്നതോടൊപ്പം[3] ഫെമിനിസ്റ്റ് ആക്ടിവിസത്തിന്റെ പേരിലും അവർ പ്രശസ്തയായിരുന്നു. തന്റെ ഗദ്യകൃതികളിൽ നാൻസി ബോയ്ഡ് എന്ന തൂലികാനാമം അവർ ഉപയോഗിച്ചു. കവി റിച്ചാർഡ് വിൽബർ സമർത്ഥിച്ചത് "ഈ നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച ഗീതകങ്ങൾ അവൾ എഴുതി" എന്നായിരുന്നു.[4]

മെയിനിലെ റോക്ക്‌ലാന്റിൽ ഒരു നഴ്‌സായ കോറ ലോനെല്ല ബുസെല്ലെയുടേയും സ്‌കൂൾ അധ്യാപകനും പിന്നീട് സ്കൂളുകളുടെ സൂപ്രണ്ടുമായിത്തീർന്ന ഹെൻറി ടോൾമാൻ മില്ലെയുടെയും പുത്രിയായി ജനിച്ചു. ന്യൂയോർക്കിലെ സെന്റ് വിൻസെന്റ് ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ നിന്നാണ് അവളുടെ മധ്യനാമത്തിന്റെ ആവിർഭാവം. അവർ ജനിക്കുന്നതിനു തൊട്ടുമുമ്പ് അമ്മാവന്റെ ജീവൻ അവിടെവച്ച് രക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.

ന്യൂയോർക്ക് നഗരജീവിതം തിരുത്തുക

1917 ൽ വാസറിൽ നിന്ന് ബിരുദം നേടിയ ശേഷം മില്ലെ ന്യൂയോർക്ക് നഗരത്തിലേയ്ക്ക് മാറിത്താമസിച്ചു. ചെറി ലെയ്ൻ തിയേറ്ററിലും[5] ന്യൂയോർക്ക് നഗരത്തിലെ[6] ഏറ്റവും ഇടുങ്ങിയ സ്ഥലമെന്ന[7][8] നിലയിൽ പ്രശസ്തമായിരുന്ന 75½ ബെഡ്ഫോർഡ് സ്ട്രീറ്റിലെയും അവർക്ക് ഉടമസ്ഥതയുള്ള ഒരു ഭവനത്തിലുമായി ഗ്രീൻ‌വിച്ച് വില്ലേജിലെ നിരവധി സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ അവർ താമസിച്ചിരുന്നു.
