ബ്രൺസ്വിക്ക്-ലുനെബർഗിന്റെ പ്രഭുവുംകൂടിയായിരുന്ന ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് രാജാവിന്റെ ബഹുമാനാർത്ഥം നാമകരണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ഇത് 1759-ൽ നോവ സ്കോട്ടിയ ഉപദ്വീപിനെ അഞ്ച് കൗണ്ടികളായി വിഭജിക്കപ്പെട്ടപ്പോഴാണ് സ്ഥാപിതമായത്. ഇതിന്റെ അതിരുകളിൽനിന്ന് ക്വീൻസ് (1762), ഹാന്റ്സ് (1781), ഷെൽബർൺ (1784), സിഡ്നി (1784) തുടങ്ങിയ പുതിയ കൗണ്ടികൾ സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടപ്പോൾ ഈ കൗണ്ടിയുടെ വിസ്തൃതി കുറഞ്ഞു.
