ബൂബി

കടൽപക്ഷികളിൽ ഒരു വിഭാഗമാണ് ബൂബി (Booby). ഈ ജനുസ്സ് സുല (Sula) എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. കൂട്ടമായാണ് ഇവ വസിക്കുന്നത്. വെള്ളത്തിനടിയിലേക്കു കുതിച്ചുചെന്ന് ഇരപിടിക്കാൻ ഇവയ്ക്കു പ്രത്യേകമായ കഴിവുണ്ട്. നടുക്കടലിൽ കപ്പലുകളിൽ ചെന്നിരുന്ന് ഇവ മനുഷ്യരുടെ പിടിയിൽ സ്ഥിരമായി അകപ്പെടാറുണ്ട്. അതിനാൽ ഇവയെ ബോബോകൾ അഥവാ വിഢികൾ എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നു. ബോബോയാണ് പിന്നീട് ബൂബിയായി മാറിയത്. ഒന്നര കിലോഗ്രാം തൂക്കം വെയ്ക്കുന്ന ഇവയ്ക്കു 80 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ നീളം ഉണ്ടാകും. ആറു തരം ബൂബികളാണ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. പസഫിക് സമുദ്രത്തിലാണ് ഇവ കൂടുതലായി കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഗന്നെറ്റുകളുമായി ഇവ അടുത്ത ബന്ധം പുലർത്തുന്നു.
