ഹിപ്പോകാംപസ്
മനുഷ്യരുടെയും മറ്റ് നട്ടല്ലുള്ള ജീവികളുടെയും തലച്ചോറിന്റെ ഒരു പ്രധാന ഘടകം ആണ് ഹിപ്പോകാംപസ്. മനുഷ്യർക്കും മറ്റ് സസ്തനികൾക്കും രണ്ട് ഹിപ്പോകാംപസ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇവ ഓരോന്നും മസ്തിഷ്കത്തിന്റെ രണ്ട് വശത്തായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഇത് മസ്തിഷ്കത്തിലെ ലിംപിക് സംവിധാനത്തിൽ പെടുന്നതും ഹ്രസ്വകാല മെമ്മറിയിൽ നിന്നും ദീർഘകാല മെമ്മറിയിലേയ്ക്കുള്ള നാവിഗേഷൻ സാധ്യമാക്കുന്ന സ്പേഷ്യൽ മെമ്മറിയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള വിവരങ്ങളുടെ ദൃഢീകരണത്തിൽ പ്രധാന പങ്ക് വഹിക്കുന്നു ഹിപ്പോകാംപസ് സെറിബ്രൽ കോർട്ടക്സിൻറെ (അലോക്കോർട്ടിക്കൽ) കീഴിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
