സിസ്റ്റോമസ് റൂഫസ്
കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്നും കണ്ടെത്തിയ പുതിയ ഇനം മത്സ്യമാണ് സിസ്റ്റോമസ് റൂഫസ് (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Systomus rufus).[2] കൊല്ലം ചവറ ഗവൺമെന്റ് കോളേജ് സുവോളജി വിഭാഗം മേധാവി പ്രൊഫസർ മാത്യൂസ് പ്ലാമൂട്ടിലാണ് പുതിയ ഇനത്തെ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞത്. മല്ലപ്പള്ളിക്കടുത്തുള്ള കീഴ്‌വായ്പൂരിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഈ ഇനത്തെ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.

സിസ്റ്റോമസ് റൂഫസിനെ വെമ്പാലയിൽ നിന്നാണ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. വീതികൂടിയ ശരീരത്തിന് തവിട്ടുനിറമാണ്. ഇവയുടെ ചിറകുകൾ ചുവന്നതാണ്.[3]
