ഏഴു മില്യൺ വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു മുൻപ് ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന, വൻ കുരങ്ങുകളുടെ (Homindae) വംശത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട ജീവവർഗമാണ് സഹാലാത്രോപസ് ത്ചാടെൻസിസ് (Sahelanthropus tchadensis ). ഇവയുടെ ജീവാശ്മങ്ങൾ മധ്യആഫ്രിക്കയിലെ മരുഭൂമിയിലാണ് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്.
