Malayalam Wiki projects use Unicode to encode its pages. If you do not see Malayalam letters on your mobile you need to configure the mobile browser. It is found that Opera Mini supports Malayalam. Following is the configuration for Opera Mini for a better Malayalam display.

Power-User settings

Opera mini normally uses your phone's built in fonts which generally have characters for only a handful of languages. If you try to view Malayalam Wikipedia with a phone that doesn't have Malayalam fonts, all you will see is a bunch of squares in the place of characters.

Use the following steps to change the default settings, so that you can enable rendering of complex scripts in your opera mini browser.

1. Open Opera Mini and type "config:" (without quotes) in the address bar . (You can also use "opera:config" ( without quotes) )

The Power-User settings page is displayed. There you will find options like loading time out and fit text to screen and so on.

2. Scroll down to the last option Use bitmap fonts for complex scripts
3. Change the value to Yes. The default value is No . .

Setting this option causes Opera to render the text of any language as an image of the the text. This will make the page load slowly but you will be able to read it (except atomic chillu characters).
