ബിഗ്ഗ്‍സ്
അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ കാലിഫോർണിയ സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ ബട്ട് കൗണ്ടിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു നഗരമാണ് ബിഗ്ഗ്‍സ്. ഇതു മുമ്പ്, ബിഗ്ഗ്‍സ് സ്റ്റേഷൻ[7] എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. 2010 ലെ സെൻസസ് പ്രകാരം ഈ നഗരത്തിൽ 1,707 പേർ അധിവസിക്കുന്നു. ഇത് 2000 ലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന 1,793 നേക്കാൾ കുറവാണ്.[8]

ബിഗ്ഗ്‍സ് നഗരം നിലനിൽക്കുന്ന അക്ഷാംശരേഖാംശങ്ങൾ 39°24′50″N 121°42′37″W / 39.41389°N 121.71028°W (39.413820, -121.710316) ആണ്.[9] അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിലെ സെൻസസ് ബ്യൂറോയുടെ കണക്കനുസരിച്ച്, നഗരത്തിന്റെ ആകെ വിസ്തീർണം 0.6 ചതുരശ്ര മൈൽ (1.6 ചതരുശ്ര കിലോമീറ്റർ2) ആണ്. ഇതു മുഴുവനും കരഭൂമിയാണ്.
ചരിത്രം തിരുത്തുക
ബിഗ്ഗ്‍സ് സ്റ്റേഷൻ എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് 1871 ൽ ഒരു പോസ്റ്റ് ഓഫീസ് സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പടുകയും 1884 ൽ നഗരത്തിൻറെ പേര് ബിഗ്ഗ്‍സ് എന്നായി മാറുകയും ചെയ്തു.[10] 1903 ൽ ഇത് ഒരു നഗരമായി സംയോജിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.[11] നഗരം നിലനിൽക്കുന്ന പ്രദേശത്തുനിന്ന് ആദ്യമായി റെയിൽവേ വഴി ധാന്യം കയറ്റി അയച്ച മേജർ മരിയോൺ ബിഗ്ഗ്‍സിൻറെ പേരിലാണ് നഗരം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്.[12] 2002 ൻറെ അവസാനത്തിൽ നഗരത്തിന്റെ മേയർക്ക് കാലിഫോർണിയ മിൽക്ക് പ്രൊസസ്സർ ബോർഡിൻറെ എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് ഡയരക്ടറായ ജെഫ് മാന്നിംഗിൽ നിന്നും നഗരത്തിൻറെ പേര് "ഗോട്ട് മിൽക്ക്" എന്നു മാറ്റാൻ നിർദ്ദേശിക്കം ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ബിഗ്ഗ്‍സ് ടൗൺ കൌൺസിൽ പിന്നീട് ഈ നിർദ്ദേശം തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞു.[13]
