This template ({{World Football Elo Ratings}}) is meant to help quicky update the World Football Elo Ratings for all men's national football teams, displayed in the infobox on each national team article. When given a country name, the template outputs the Elo ranking of a country, along with a movement indicator (increase, decrease, or steady), and by how many spots a country moved in the last year, if applicable. The date of the rankings is also listed, along with a reference to the rankings from the World Football Elo Ratings website.

If desired, the Elo ranking reference can be used elsewhere in the article using the name "World Football Elo Ratings" (i.e. <ref name="World Football Elo Ratings"/>).

  • 1 (unnamed): Country name
  • mdy: Switches dates to month-day-year format

The main template page is not meant to be updated. The rankings should be updated at Module:SportsRankings/data/World Football Elo Ratings.

To update the rankings:

  1. Between lines 17 and 19, update the day and month (along with the year if necessary) to the date of the last match in the website's results section.
  2. Between line 31 and 268, paste in the code for the new rankings (see generating code section)

and save. Once the cache of a national team page is purged, the updated ranking will be displayed.

All positions can be quickly updated using a spreadsheet. For example, after copying the entire table (all rows, unedited) from the World Football Elo Ratings list, the data can be copied to an external spreadsheet to generate the code necessary to update the data page. Due to the website design, the entire table may paste into one row, requiring the following formula to be used (given the rankings begin in cell A1):
