This is a template to generate links to MetaCritic. This template should be used exclusively for FILM TITLES, that is, specifically for films.

To link a made-for-tv movie, miniseries, or television series, use {{metacritic television}} instead.

Instructions

1. Search on metacritic.com for the title you want.
2. Click on the correct link to go to the movie's page (or whatever you're looking for). Be sure you're getting on the correct title page.
3. The page URL for a film should look like http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/YYYYYYYYYY, with the YYYYYYYYYY being a text ID for the film (and usually consists of the film title, in all lower case, with spaces and punctuation removed)
4. Copy ONLY that text at the end
5. Add to the external links section the text:

{{metacritic film|id=YYYYYYYYYY|title=TITLE}}

where "YYYYYYYYYY" is the id you've copied, and "Title" is the title of the film. The title field is completely optional, and will default to the Wikipedia article title if left out

Example

1. On the page Terminator, a search on Metacritic in the Film area results gets you to this page: http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/terminator
2. Copy "category7theendoftheworld" and then use it for the ID:

The result on the article page is:

Typically this is a list item in the external links section (even if there is only one link), so you should add "*" in front.
