Purpose

To show gross tonnage in a consistent manner that is compliant with WP:MOSNUM. In particular it:

• capitalization and spelling are standardized (i.e. GT, Gt, gt, G.T., g.t. and so forth),
• the link to the definition is standardized,
• spells out "gross tonnage (GT) of XXX", introducing the abbreviation GT on the first use in an article,
• links to gross tonnage on the first use in an article,
• uses the abbreviation GT, i.e. "XXX GT" on subsequent uses in the article, and
• inserts  s where needed.

Usage

{{GT|number|first=(yes|caps|short)}}

Use the first parameter the first time the template appears on the page. It has three options:

• first=yes to create a verbose description,
• first=caps to create a verbose description that starts with a capital letter
• first=short to create a terse description, suitable for tables and infoboxes.
