പ്ലെത്രോൺ

നീളം കണക്കാക്കുന്നതിനായി പുരാതന ഗ്രീസിൽ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു ഏകകമാണ് പ്ലെത്രോൺ ( ഗ്രീക്ക്: πλέθρον). 100 പൗസുകൾ (ഗ്രീക്ക് കാലടി) ആണ് ഒരു പ്ലെത്രോൺ എന്നായിരുന്നു കണക്ക്. ഇത് ഏകദേശം 30 മീറ്റർ നീളം വരുന്നുണ്ട്.^[1] പുരാതനഗ്രീസിലെ റണ്ണിങ് ട്രാക്കിന്റെ വീതി, ഗുസ്തിക്കളത്തിന്റെ വശങ്ങളുടെ നീളം എന്നിങ്ങനെ പ്ലെത്രോൺ അറിയപ്പെട്ടു വന്നു. ഒരു ചതുരശ്ര പ്ലെത്രോൺ എന്നത് ഒരു ഗ്രീക്ക് ഏക്കർ അഥവാ സ്ട്രെമ്മ ആയി അറിയപ്പെട്ടു.

ചില ഗീക്ക് അനുബന്ധപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും വിസ്തീർണ്ണം അളക്കാനും ഇതേ പേരുള്ള ഏകകം ഉപയോഗിച്ചു^[2]. ചതുരശ്ര പ്ലെത്രോൺ എന്നതിന് പകരം പ്ലെത്രോൺ എന്ന് തന്നെ പല പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും ഉപയോഗിച്ചുവന്നു.
