പ്രോസെർപൈൻ
ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് കലാകാരനും കവിയുമായ ദാന്തെ ഗബ്രിയൽ റോസെറ്റി ക്യാൻവാസിൽ വരച്ച ഒരു എണ്ണച്ചായ ചിത്രമാണ് പ്രോസെർപൈൻ (പ്രൊസെർപിന). റോസെറ്റി 1871-ൽ പെയിന്റിംഗിന്റെ ജോലി ആരംഭിച്ചു. കുറഞ്ഞത് ഈ ചിത്രത്തിൻറെ എട്ട് വ്യത്യസ്ത പതിപ്പുകളെങ്കിലും വരച്ചു. അവസാനമായി പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മരണ വർഷമായ 1882-ൽ മാത്രമാണ്. ആദ്യ പതിപ്പുകൾ ചാൾസ് അഗസ്റ്റസ് ഹോവലിന് വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തു. ഈ ലേഖനത്തിൽ ചർച്ച ചെയ്‌തിരിക്കുന്ന ചിത്രം ഫ്രെഡറിക് റിച്ചാർഡ്‌സ് ലെയ്‌ലാൻഡ് കമ്മീഷൻ ചെയ്‌ത ഏഴാമത്തെ പതിപ്പാണ്. ഇപ്പോൾ ടേറ്റ് ഗാലറിയിൽ, സമാനമായ അവസാന പതിപ്പ് ഇപ്പോൾ ബിർമിംഗ്ഹാം മ്യൂസിയം ആന്റ് ആർട്ട് ഗാലറിയിലും കാണാം.[1][2][3]

തന്റെ പ്രോസെർപൈനിൽ, ആർട്ടിസ്റ്റ് തന്റെ സാധാരണ പ്രീ-റാഫേലൈറ്റ് ശൈലിയിൽ ശൈത്യകാലത്ത് അധോലോകത്ത് താമസിക്കുന്ന ഗ്രീക്ക് ദേവതയായ പ്രോസെർപിനയെ ചിത്രീകരിക്കുന്നു. റോസെറ്റി ചിത്രത്തിൽ 1874 എന്ന തീയതി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, എട്ട് വ്യത്യസ്ത ക്യാൻവാസുകളിൽ ഏഴ് വർഷത്തോളം അദ്ദേഹം ഈ ചിത്രം പൂർത്തിയാക്കി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മോഡൽ ജെയ്ൻ മോറിസിനെപ്പോലെ, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രോസെർപൈനും, അതിലോലമായ മുഖ സവിശേഷതകളും, മെലിഞ്ഞ കൈകളും, കട്ടിയുള്ള കറുകറുത്ത മുടിയും കുറ്റമറ്റ വിളറിയ ചർമ്മവുമുള്ള അതിസുന്ദരിയാണ്. തന്റെ മാനസികാരോഗ്യം അങ്ങേയറ്റം അപകടകരവും ജെയ്ൻ മോറിസിനോടുള്ള സ്നേഹം ഏറ്റവും ഭ്രാന്തമായതുമായ സമയത്താണ് റോസെറ്റി ഈ ചിത്രം വരച്ചത്.
