1981 ലെ സെനസസ് പ്രകാരം 81.18 % ലേ ജനത ബുദ്ധമതക്കാരാണ്. കൂടാതെ 15.32 % മുസ്ലിമുകളും, 2.99 % ഹിന്ദുക്കളും, 0.27% സിഖുകാരും, 0.23 % കൃസ്ത്യാനികളുമാണ്. 2001 ലെ സെന്‍സസ് പ്രകാരം ലേയിലെ ജനസംഖ്യ 27513 ആണ്. ഇതില്‍ 61% പുരുഷന്മാരും 39% സ്ത്രീകളുമാണ്. ഇവിടുത്തെ സാക്ഷരതാ നിരക്ക് 75% ആണ്. ഇതില്‍ പുരുഷ് സാക്ഷരത 82% വും, സ്ത്രീ സാക്ഷരത 65% വുമാണ്. ജനസംഖ്യയില്‍ 9% ആറു വയസ്സില്‍ താഴെയുള്ളവരാണ്.
