1836-ൽ സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഈ നഗരത്തിന് വില്ല്യം IV രാജാവിന്റെ പത്നിയായിരുന്ന അഡിലെയ്ഡ് രാജ്ഞിയുടെ ബഹുമാനാർത്ഥമാണ് അഡിലെയ്ഡ് എന്ന പേർ നൽകപ്പെട്ടത്. <ref>The Swan River Colony of Western Australia was founded in 1829 as a free settlement.
