പേസ് (ഏകകം)
ഒരു കാൽവെപ്പ് ദൂരത്തെക്കുറിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ഏകകമാണ് പേസ് (Pace). ഇതിന് ഏകദേശം 75 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ അഥവാ 30 ഇഞ്ച് നീളം വരും. ഈ അളവ് വ്യക്തിയുടെ പ്രായം, ആരോഗ്യം എന്നിവക്കനുസരിച്ച് വ്യത്യാസപ്പെടുന്നു[1]. പ്രാദേശികമായ വ്യതിയാനങ്ങൾ ഈ യൂണിറ്റിന് കണ്ടുവരുന്നു. ചില സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ രണ്ട് കാൽവെപ്പുകൾ കൂടിയതാണ് ഒരു പേസ്. വേഗതയുടെ വിപരീത ഏകകമായും ഈ വാക്ക് പറയപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്, അതായത് ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ താണ്ടാൻ ഇത്ര സമയം എന്ന രൂപത്തിൽ.[2]
ഒരു ഏകകം എന്ന നിലയിലല്ലാതെയും പേസ് എന്ന വാക്ക് സർവ്വെയിങിൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. അളവെടുക്കലിന്റെ ഒന്നാം ഘട്ടത്തിൽ നോട്ടം (എ) കൊണ്ടോ താരതമ്യം കൊണ്ടോ അനൗപചാരികമായി ഏകദേശം കണക്കാക്കുന്നതിനെ പേസിങ് എന്ന് പറയുന്നു.

മറ്റ് പരമ്പരാഗത അളവുകൾ പോലെ, ഒരു അനൗപചാരിക ഏകകമായാണ് പേസ് തുടങ്ങിയതെങ്കിലും പിന്നീട് അത് സ്റ്റാൻഡേർഡ് ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു, സൈനിക പരേഡിലെ കാൽവെപ്പിന്റെ കണക്കനുസരിച്ചും സാധാരണ പേസിന്റെ ദൂരമനുസരിച്ചുമൊക്കെയാണ് ഏകീകരണം നടന്നത്.
- അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകളിൽ പേസ് എന്നത് അപൂർവ്വമായി ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ഏകകമാണ്, രണ്ടര അടി (30 ഇഞ്ച്, 76 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ) ആയി പേസിനെ നിജപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.[3] [4]
- പുരാതന റോമിൽ രണ്ട് കാൽവെപ്പുകളാണ് (4 അടി 10 ഇഞ്ച്, 148 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ) ഒരു പേസ് ആയി കണക്കാക്കിയിരുന്നത്. ഇത്തരം 1000 പേസുകളാണ് ഒരു റോമൻ മൈൽ ആയി കണക്കാക്കിയിരുന്നത്.

- വേൽസിൽ, ഒരു പേസ് എന്നാൽ 3 വെൽഷ് അടി (9 ഇഞ്ചാണ് ഒരു വെൽഷ് അടി) നീളമാണ്. ഇത് ഒരു ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് യാർഡിന് തുല്യമാണ്.
