ഓൺ ഫെയറി-സ്റ്റോറീസ്
ജെ.ആർ.ആർ. ടോൾകീന്റെ ഒരു ഉപന്യാസമാണ് "ഓൺ ഫെയറി-സ്റ്റോറീസ്". അത് ഫെയറി-കഥയെ ഒരു സാഹിത്യ രൂപമായി ചർച്ച ചെയ്യുന്നു. 1939 മാർച്ച് 8-ന് സ്കോട്ട്‌ലൻഡിലെ സെന്റ് ആൻഡ്രൂസ് യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയിൽ ആൻഡ്രൂ ലാംഗ് പ്രഭാഷണമായി ടോൾകീൻ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി ഇത് ആദ്യം എഴുതി(കേവലം "ഫെയറി സ്റ്റോറീസ്" എന്നായിരുന്നു).[2]

പ്രഭാഷണത്തിൽ, ഒരു ഫോക്ക്‌ലോറിസ്റ്റും യക്ഷിക്കഥകൾ ശേഖരിക്കുന്നവനുമായി ആൻഡ്രൂ ലാങ്ങിന്റെ കൃതികളിൽ ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിക്കാൻ ടോൾകീൻ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു. തന്റെ ഫെയറി ബുക്സ് ശേഖരത്തിൽ (1889-1910), സഞ്ചാരികളുടെ കഥകൾ, മൃഗങ്ങളുടെ കെട്ടുകഥകൾ, മറ്റ് തരത്തിലുള്ള കഥകൾ എന്നിവയിൽ ലാങ്ങിന്റെ വിശാലമായ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തലിനോട് അദ്ദേഹം വിയോജിച്ചു. യക്ഷിക്കഥകൾ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളായോ അല്ലാതെയോ ഫെയറി എന്ന മന്ത്രവാദ മണ്ഡലമായ ഫെയറിയിൽ നടന്നവയായി വീക്ഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ടോൾകീൻ ഒരു ഇടുങ്ങിയ വീക്ഷണം പുലർത്തി. യക്ഷിക്കഥകളുടെ വികാസത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള അവരുടെ സിദ്ധാന്തങ്ങളിൽ ലാംഗിനോടും മാക്സ് മുള്ളറോടും അദ്ദേഹം വിയോജിച്ചു. അത് മനുഷ്യ ഭാവനയുടെയും മനുഷ്യ ഭാഷയുടെയും ഇടപെടലിന്റെ സ്വാഭാവിക വികാസമായി അദ്ദേഹം വീക്ഷിച്ചു.
"ഓൺ ഫെയറി-സ്റ്റോറീസ്" 1964-ൽ ട്രീ ആൻഡ് ലീഫിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചപ്പോൾ കൂടുതൽ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കപ്പെടാൻ തുടങ്ങി.[3][4]അതിനുശേഷം ട്രീ ആൻഡ് ലീഫ് നിരവധി തവണ പുനഃപ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു,[5] കൂടാതെ "ഓൺ ഫെയറി-സ്റ്റോറീസ്" 1966-ൽ ദ ടോൾകീൻ റീഡർ പോലെയുള്ള ടോൾകീന്റെ കൃതികളുടെ മറ്റ് സമാഹാരങ്ങളിൽ പുനഃപ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു, എന്നിരുന്നാലും ആ പതിപ്പ് മോശം പ്രൂഫ് റീഡിംഗ് മൂലം തകരാറിലായി. [6][7][8]1980ലെ കവിതകളിലും കഥകളിലും[9]1983-ലെ ദി മോൺസ്റ്റേഴ്‌സ് ആൻഡ് ദി ക്രിട്ടിക്‌സ്, അദർ എസ്സേസ് എന്നിവയിലും ഇത് വീണ്ടും പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു.[10] "ഓൺ ഫെയറി സ്റ്റോറീസ്" 2008-ൽ വിപുലീകരിച്ച പതിപ്പിൽ സ്വന്തമായി പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.[11]
