2005-മുതൽ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ സമൂഹമദ്ധ്യത്തിൽ കൂട്ടമായി അരങ്ങേറുന്ന ലൈംഗികാതിക്രമങ്ങൾ റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.[n 1] തഹാറുഷ് ജമായ് എന്നപേരിൽ പ്രാദേശികമായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു തരം ലൈംഗികാതിക്രമ വിനോദം ഈജിപ്ഷ്യൻ വിപ്ലവകാരികൾ വിജയാഹ്ലാദത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്ത സ്ത്രീകളുടെ നേർക്ക് നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. ഈ അതിക്രമം നടക്കുമ്പോൾ സ്ത്രീകളെ ആൾക്കൂട്ടത്തിന്റെ നടുക്ക് ഒറ്റപ്പെടുത്തി, ചുറ്റും തടിച്ചുകൂടുന്ന ആൾക്കൂട്ടം അവരെ അക്രമിക്കുന്നതിനും, സഹായത്തിനു വരുന്നവരെ ഉപദ്രവിച്ച് ഒരു സഹായവും ലഭിക്കാത്ത വിധത്തിലാക്കി, മർദ്ദിച്ച് വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ ചീന്തിയെറിഞ്ഞ് ബലാത്സംഗത്തിനിരയാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന രീതിയിലാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. സ്ത്രീകൾ പൊതു സമൂഹത്തിൽ ഇടപെടുന്നതിനെ വിരോധിക്കുന്ന ചിന്താഗതി പ്രബലമായ സമൂഹങ്ങളിലാണ് ഈ അതിക്രമം ഒരു വിനോദമെന്നപോലെ നടത്തപ്പെടാറുള്ളത്.[3]
