1962ൽ അൾജീറിയായിൽ നടന്ന സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യസമരത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്ത അൾജീറിയായിലെ സ്ത്രീകൾ പുരുഷന്മാർക്കു തുല്യമായ അവകാശം ലഭിക്കാനായി സമരംചെയ്തു. അങ്ങനെ അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ സ്വത്വം നിലനിർത്താനും ആണിൽനിന്നും അത് അംഗീകരിപ്പിക്കാനും പുതിയ ഒരു ബോധം വളർത്താൻ കഴിഞ്ഞു. സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യസമരശേഷം അൾജീറിയായിലെ സ്ത്രീകൾ തങ്ങളുടെ അവകാശങ്ങൾ നിലനിർത്താനായി ആ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ വികസനത്തിനായി പുരുഷന്മാരോടൊപ്പം തോൾചേർന്നുനിന്നു പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. അൾജീറിയ താരതമ്യേന പുരോഗമനത്തെ പിന്തുണക്കുന്ന ഒരു രാജ്യമായിത്തീർന്നു. [4] ഫ്രാൻസിന്റെ കീഴിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന കാലഘട്ടത്തിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നതിലും താമസിച്ചാണ് ഇവിടത്തെ പല സ്ത്രീകളും വിവാഹിതരാകുന്നത്. വിദ്യാഭ്യാസവും തൊഴിലിനോടുള്ള കൂറും മാറുന്ന സാമൂഹ്യ ചുറ്റുപാടുമാണ് സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് തങ്ങളുടെ വിവാഹം നീട്ടേണ്ടിവരുന്നത്.

  • ലൗഇസ ഹനൗനി - The head of Algeria's Workers' Party (Parti des Travailleurs, PT). In 2004, she became the first woman to run for President of Algeria. Hanoune won 4.22% of the vote coming second out of six candidates. Though the elections are widely believed to have been fraudulent as a means of reelectingv President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
