അലക്സാണ്ടർ റൊമാൻസ്

മഹാനായ അലക്സാണ്ടറുടെ ജീവിതത്തെയും വിജയങ്ങളുടെയും വിവരണമാണ് അലക്സാണ്ടർ റൊമാൻസ്. ജീവചരിത്രത്തിന്റെ മൂലതന്തുവിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്ന ഈ വിവരണം കാല്പനികത നിറഞ്ഞ പ്രണയത്തെ കൂടി ചിത്രീകരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ലോകവ്യാപകമായി വിവിധ ഭാഷകളിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഈ കൃതി, ഗ്രീക്ക് ഭാഷയിലാണ് എഴുതപ്പെട്ടത്. CE 338-ൽ ലാറ്റിനിലേക്ക് വിവർത്തനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു എന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. പിൽക്കാലത്ത് കാണപ്പെട്ട പല കയ്യെഴുത്ത് പ്രതികളും സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് കൊട്ടാരം ചരിത്രകാരനായിരുന്ന കാലിസ്റ്റനീസ് ആണ് അലക്സാണ്ടർ റൊമാൻസിന്റെ രചയിതാവ് എന്നാണ്. ചക്രവർത്തിക്ക് മുമ്പു തന്നെ കാലിസ്റ്റനീസ് മരണപ്പെട്ടതിനാൽ ഇത് സമഗ്രമാക്കാൻ സാധിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല. പലപ്പോഴും അജ്ഞാതനായ ഈ രചയിതാവിനെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാനായി സ്യൂഡോ കാലിസ്റ്റനീസ് എന്ന് പറയാറുണ്ട്.
