അബിസൗ
നിയർ ഈസ്റ്റ്, യൂറോപ്പ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ പുരാണങ്ങൾ, നാടോടിക്കഥകൾ തുടങ്ങിയവയിൽ പ്രതിപാദിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു രാക്ഷസിയാണ് അബിസൗ. വന്ധ്യയായിരുന്നതിനാൽ നിരാശയും അസൂയാലുവുമായിരുന്നു ഈ കഥാപാത്രം. ഗർഭം അലസിപ്പിക്കുക, കുട്ടികളെ കൊല്ലുക എന്നിവ അബിസൗ ചെയ്തുവരുന്നതായാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം. അലബസാൻഡ്രിയ, ഗൈലോ തുടങ്ങി എണ്ണമറ്റ പേരുകളിൽ വിവിധ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും കാലഘട്ടങ്ങളിലും ഈ കഥാപാത്രം അറിയപ്പെട്ടു വന്നു[1].
ചിത്രങ്ങളിലും രേഖകളിലും തകിടുകളിലുമെല്ലാം വിവിധങ്ങളായ ചിത്രീകരണങ്ങൾ (സർപ്പം, മത്സ്യം തുടങ്ങിയ) അബിസൗ എന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നതായി കാണാം. ഇതിനെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള വിവരണം ടെസ്റ്റമെന്റ് ഓഫ് സോളമൻ എന്ന കൃതിയിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്[2] എന്നാണ് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നത്.
