Kalamandalam Shijukumar was born to Sri.V Purushothaman Nair and R.Pushpavalli Amma at Thachonam, Kollam district in Kerala. Shiju kumar started learning kathakali at the age of twelve from Kerala Kalamandalam under the Gurus Sri.Kalamandalam Gopakumar, Sri. Kalamandalam Prasannkumar(Late) and Sri Kalamandalam Rajasekharan. He scripted many stories for Kathkali, musical dance theatre, mohiniyattam,Keralanatanam, documentary film etc.
