സിക്ലിഡി കുടുംബത്തിലെ സിക്ലിഫോംസ് നിരയിലുൾപ്പെട്ട ഒരു മത്സ്യമാണ് സിക്ലിഡ് /ˈsɪklɪdz/[1]പരമ്പരാഗതമായി സിക്ലിഡ് മത്സ്യങ്ങളെ ലാബ്രൊഡേയിലാണ് ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.[2]തന്മാത്രാ പഠനങ്ങൾ ഈ ഗ്രൂപ്പിംഗിന് വിരുദ്ധമാണ്.[3]ഒരുപക്ഷേ സിക്ലിഡുകളുടെ ഏറ്റവും അടുത്ത ബന്ധുക്കൾ ആയ കൺവിക്റ്റ് ബ്ലെന്നീസ് ഉൾപ്പെടെ രണ്ട് കുടുംബങ്ങളെയും ഫിഷെസ് ഓഫ് ദി വേൾഡിന്റെ അഞ്ചാം പതിപ്പിൽ ഓവലന്റേറിയ എന്ന സബ്സീരീസിന്റെ ഭാഗമായ സിക്ലിഫോർമിലെ രണ്ട് കുടുംബങ്ങളായി തിരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.[4]ഈ കുടുംബം വലുതും വൈവിധ്യപൂർണ്ണവുമാണ്. കുറഞ്ഞത് 1,650 ഇനങ്ങളെ ശാസ്ത്രീയമായി വിവരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.[5] ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കശേരുക്കളുടെ കുടുംബങ്ങളിലൊന്നായി ഇത് മാറുന്നു. പുതിയ സ്പീഷീസ് വർഷം തോറും കണ്ടെത്തുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും പല സ്പീഷീസുകളും ടാക്സോൺ വിവരിക്കപ്പെടാതെ തുടരുന്നു. അതിനാൽ യഥാർത്ഥ ഇനങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണം അജ്ഞാതമാണ്. കണക്കാക്കുന്നത് 2,000 മുതൽ 3,000 വരെ എണ്ണം വ്യത്യാസപ്പെടുന്നു.[6]
