മരിയ എഡ്ജ്വർത്ത്
മരിയ എഡ്ജ്വർത്ത് (ജീവിതകാലം: 1 ജനുവരി 1768 – 22 മെയ് 1849) ഒരു പ്രശസ്തയായ ആംഗ്ലോ-ഐറിഷ് എഴുത്തുകാരിയായിരുന്നു. അവർ ബാലസാഹിത്യത്തിലെ ആദ്യ റിയലിസ്റ്റ് എഴുത്തുകാരിൽ ഒരാളുമായിരുന്നു. യൂറോപ്പിലെ നോവൽ ശാഖയുടെ പരിണാമത്തിൽ അവരുടെ കൃതികൾ ഗണ്യമായ സ്വാധീനം ചെലുത്തിയിരുന്നു.[2] അക്കാലത്തെ വനിതകളിലെ പുരോഗമനചിന്താഗതിക്കാരിയായിരുന്നു അവർ. രാഷ്ട്രീയകാര്യങ്ങളിലും വിദ്യാഭ്യാസകാര്യങ്ങളിലുമൊക്കെ ശ്രദ്ധ പതിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന അവർ അക്കാലത്തെ പ്രമുഖ സാഹിത്യകാന്മാരായിരുന്ന സർ വാൾട്ടർ സ്കോട്ട്, ഡേവിഡ് റിക്കാർഡോ തുടങ്ങിയവരുമായി എഴുത്തുകുത്തുകൾ നടത്തിയിരുന്നു.

മരിയ എഡ്ജ്വർത്ത് ജനിച്ചത് ഒൿസ്ഫോർഡ്ഷെയറിലെ ബ്ലാക്ക് ബൌർട്ടണിലാണ്. അവർ റിച്ചാർഡ് ലോവൽ എഡ്ജ്വർത്തിൻറെ യും അന്ന മരിയ എഡ്ജ്വർത്തിൻറെയും രണ്ടാമത്തെ കുട്ടിയായിരുന്നു. (നാലു ഭാര്യമായിലായി അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് 22 കുട്ടികളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു). ബാല്യകാലം ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിൽ മാതാവിൻറെ കുടുംബത്തോടൊപ്പമാണ് ചിലവഴിച്ചത്. മാതാവ് മരണമടയുമ്പോൾ മരിയയ്ക്ക് 5 വയസ് പ്രായമായിരുന്നു. 1773 ൽ അവരുടെ പിതാവ് രണ്ടാം ഭാര്യയായ ഹൊണോറ സ്നെയ്ഡിനെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചതിനു ശേഷം മരിയ പിതാവിനോടൊപ്പം അയർലൻറിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ ലോംഗ്ഫോർഡ് കൌണ്ടിയിലുള്ള എഡ്ജ്വർത്ത് ടൌണിലെ എസ്റ്റേറ്റിലേയ്ക്കു പോയി.
