വടക്കൻ അഫ്ഗാനിസ്താനിലെ വളരെയേറെ ചരിത്രപ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള ഒരു പുരാതനനഗരമാണ് ബാൾഖ്. ([[പേർഷ്യൻ]]: بلخ - ബാൾഹ്, [[പുരാതന പേർഷ്യൻ]]: 𐎲𐎾𐎧; [[പുരാതന ഗ്രീക്ക്]]: Baktra). ബാക്ട്ര എന്നും അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ഇത് പുരാതന ബാക്ട്രിയയിലേയും, മദ്ധ്യകാലത്തെ ഖുറാസാനിലേയും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ഒരു നഗരമായിരുന്നു. അഫ്ഗാനിസ്ഥാനിലെ ബാൾഖ് എന്ന പേരിൽത്തന്നെയുള്ള പ്രവിശ്യയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഇത് ഇന്ന് താരതമ്യേന ചെറിയ ഒരു പട്ടണമാണ്. പ്രവിശ്യയുടെ ആസ്ഥാനമായ മസാർ-ഇ ഷറീഫിന് 20 കിലോമീറ്റർ വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ബാൾഖ്, അഫ്ഗാനിസ്താന്റെ വടക്കൻ അതിർത്തിയായ [[അമു ദാര്യ]] നദിക്ക് 74 കിലോമീറ്റർ തെക്കുമാറിയാണ് നിലകൊള്ളുന്നത്.
