[[ഇന്ത്യൻ നാഷ്ണൽ കോൺഗ്രസ്]] അംഗമായ ഇദ്ദേഹം ഇതിന് മുൻപ് കേന്ദ്രസർക്കാരിൽ ശാസ്ത്രസാങ്കേതികം, ഭൗമശാസ്ത്രം, പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ കാര്യാലയം, പരാതിപരിഹാരം, പെൻഷൻ, പാർലമെന്ററി കാര്യം എന്നീ വകുപ്പുകളുടെ സഹമന്ത്രി സ്ഥാനം വഹിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. മന്മോഹൻ സിങ് ആദ്യമായി നയിച്ച മന്ത്രിസഭയിലും സഹമന്ത്രിയായിരുന്നു. [[രാജ്യസഭ|രാജ്യസഭാംഗമായ]] ഇദ്ദേഹം ആ സ്ഥാനത്തിൽ ഇപ്പോൾ രണ്ടാം തവണയാണ്. രണ്ട് തവണ [[ലോകസഭ|ലോകസഭയിലും]] അംഗമായിട്ടുണ്ട്.
==2014 ലെ രാജി==
എൻ.സി.പി കോൺഗ്രസിനുള്ള പിന്തുണ പിൻവലിച്ചതിനെ തുടർന്ന് 2014 സെപ്റ്റംബറിൽ രാജി വെച്ചു. എൻ.സി.പിയോട് ആലോചിക്കാതെ കോൺഗ്രസ് 118 മണ്ഡലങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള സ്ഥാനാർത്ഥി പട്ടിക പുറത്തിറക്കിയതിനെത്തുടർന്നുള്ള നിയമസഭാ സീറ്റ് വിഭജന തർക്കമാണ് രാജിക്കിടയാക്കിയത്.
