'''മാടത്തുമല''' എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ഈ സ്ഥലം 1970-കളിൽ [[കോട്ടയം|കോട്ടയത്തെ]] കത്തോലിക്കാ രൂപത കോടോത്തുകുടുംബത്തിൽ നിന്നും കുടിയേറ്റത്തിനുവേണ്ടി വാങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു{{തെളിവ്}}. കുടിയേറ്റക്കാർ ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന് പരിശുദ്ധമറിയത്തിന്റെ ഓർമ്മയ്ക്കായി റാണിപുരം എന്ന പേരുകൊടുത്തു. കുടിയേറ്റത്തിനു മുൻപുള്ള ആചാരങ്ങൾ ഇന്നും നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. പ്രകൃതിദേവിയെ പ്രസാദിപ്പിക്കുവാനുള്ള ‘[[തെയ്യം]]‘ എല്ലാ മെയ് മാസത്തിലും നടക്കുന്നു. ഇന്ന് റാണിപുരത്തെ ജനസംഖ്യയുടെ ഒരു വലിയ ഭാഗം [[മറാത്തി|മറാത്തികളാണ്]]. മുൻപ് വടക്കുനിന്നും കുടിയേറിപ്പാർത്തവരുടെ പിന്മുറക്കാരാണ് ഇവർ.
