ശതവാഹന കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഡെക്കാൻ പ്രദേശത്ത് നിരവധി ബുദ്ധസന്യാസമഠങ്ങൾ ഉയർന്നുവന്നു. എന്നാലും എന്നിരുന്നാലും, ബുദ്ധമതമഠങ്ങളും ശതവാഹനഭരണവും തമ്മിലുള്ള ബന്ധം വ്യക്തമല്ല. <ref>{{cite book |author=Carla M.
