നീലകണ്ഠ കൃഷ്ണൻ, PVSM, DSC (8 ജൂൺ 1919 – 30 ജനുവരി 1982) ഇന്ത്യൻ നേവിയിൽ സേവനം അനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിരുന്ന വ്യക്തിയാണ്. 1971 ലെ ഇന്ത്യാ-പാകിസ്താൻ യുദ്ധകാലത്ത് ഈസ്റ്റേൺ നേവൽ കമാൻഡിൻറെ കമാൻഡിംഗ് ഇൻ ചീഫ് ഫ്ലാഗ് ഓഫീസറായിരുന്നു. He is believed to have tricked the Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi, which was on a search and destroy mission, into entering Visakhapatnam; where it was eliminated.

തിരുവിതാംകൂറിൽ എക്സിക്യൂട്ടീവ് എൻജിനീയർ ആയിരുന്ന റാവു ബഹദൂർ മഹാദേവ നീലകണ്ഠ അയ്യരുടെ ഇളയ മകൻ നീലകണ്ഠ കൃഷ്ണൻ 1919 ൽ നാഗർകോവിലിൽ ജനിച്ചു.[4][5]

നാവിക സേനയിൽ

1940 സെപ്തംബർ 1ന് റോയൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ നേവിയിൽ സബ് ലെഫ്റ്റനൻറ് ആയി നിയമിതനായി.[6] പിന്നീട് 1941 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 16ന് ലെഫ്റ്റനൻറ് ആയി പദവിയേറ്റു.[7] In 1942, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for "courage, enterprise and devotion to duty in operations in the Persian Gulf".[8] He had been serving on HMIS Investigator at that time,[9]

റോയൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ നേവിയിൽ ആക്ടിംഗ് ലെഫ്റ്റനൻറ് കമാൻഡർ ആയിരുന്ന നീലകണ്ഠ കൃഷ്ണൻ 1947 ൽ ഇന്ത്യ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം നേടിയതിനു ശേഷം പുതിയതായീ രൂപീകരിച്ച ഇന്ത്യൻ നേവിയിൽ സേവനം തുടർന്നു. 1949 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 16ന് അദ്ദേഹം ലെഫ്റ്റനൻറ് കമാൻഡർ ആയി പദവിയേറ്റു.,[10] and was appointed Director of Naval Plans on 19 December with the acting rank of Commander.[11] He was promoted to substantive Commander on 30 June 1952.[12] On 15 July 1955, Krishnan was appointed Director of Personnel Services, with the acting rank of Captain.[13] He was appointed a deputy military secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat on 9 January 1956,[14] and was promoted to the substantive rank of Captain on 31 December 1957.[15] On 18 March 1958, he was promoted to Commodore 2nd Class,[16] subsequently reverting to his permanent rank of Captain but again being promoted to Commodore on 1 January 1966.[17]

On 12 December 1967, Krishnan was appointed Vice Chief of the Naval Staff (VCNS) with the acting rank of Rear Admiral (paid from 18 February 1968).[18] He was promoted to substantive Rear Admiral on 16 June 1968.[19] On 26 March 1969, the post of VCNS was upgraded to the rank of Vice Admiral, with Krishnan being promoted to the acting rank from the same date.[20] He was promoted to substantive Vice Admiral on 1 March 1970.[21]

His command during the 1971 war led the crew of the Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant to earn two Mahavir Chakras and 12 Vir Chakras. Under his leadership in 1971, the aircraft carrier's Sea Hawks struck shipping in the Chittagong and Cox's Bazar harbours, sinking or incapacitating most ships in harbour.[അവലംബം ആവശ്യമാണ്]

അഡ്മിറൽ കൃഷ്ണൻ ഇന്ത്യൻ നേവിയിൽ നിന്നും 1976 ഫെബ്രുവരി 29ന് വിരമിച്ചു.[22] നീലകണ്ഠ കൃഷ്ണൻറെ ആത്മകഥ, A Sailor's Story, അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ പുത്രൻ അർജ്ജുൻ കൃഷ്ണൻ 2011 ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.[23] 1982 ജനുവരി 30ന് ഹൈദരാബാദിലെ വസതിയിൽ വച്ച് നിര്യാതനായി.
