[[കൊല്ലം ജില്ല|കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ]] ഒരു കടലോര ഗ്രാമമാണ് '''മയ്യനാട്'''. [[ഹെർമൻ ഗുണ്ടർട്ട്|ഗുണ്ടർട്ട്]] നിഘണ്ടുവിൽ "മയ്യം" എന്ന വാക്കിന് നടുമ എന്ന അർത്ഥം കൽപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. കൊല്ലം മുതൽ പരവൂർ തെക്കുംഭാഗം വരെ നീണ്ട വേണാട്ട് രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യ ഭാഗത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നതിനാലാണ് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന് മയ്യനാട് എന്ന നാമം ഉണ്ടായത് എന്നൊരു വാദമുണ്ട്. [[സി. കേശവൻ]], [[സി.വി. കുഞ്ഞുരാമൻ|സി.വി. കുഞ്ഞരാമൻ]] തുടങ്ങിയ മഹാരഥൻമാർ ജനിച്ച് വളർന്ന മണ്ണാണ് മയ്യനാട്ടേത്. [[കൊല്ലം]] ജില്ലയുടെ സാംസ്കാരിക കേന്ദ്രം എന്നു മയ്യനാടിനെ പലപ്പോഴും വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ട്. [[കൊല്ലം]] ജില്ലയിലെ തെക്കൻ കടലോരഗ്രാമമായ ഈ പ്രദേശം, ജില്ലാ ആസ്ഥാനത്ത് നിന്നും 10 km തെക്ക് കിഴക്കായി കടലോരത്തേക്ക് ചേർന്ന് നിൽക്കുന്നു. NH 47 കടന്ന് പോകുന്ന തട്ടാമല, കൊട്ടിയം പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടെ തെക്കോട്ട് മാറി കിടക്കുകയാണ് മയ്യനാട്.
