ഗോട്ടിഞ്ചൻ സർവ്വകലാശാലയിൽ ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്രത്തിലും മൃഗവൈദ്യത്തിലും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രഫസർ ആയിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം ''Anfangsgründe der Naturlehre'' (1772) ഉം ''Systema regni animalis'' (1777) യും രചിച്ചു. ജർമനിയിലെ ഏറ്റവും പഴയ അകാഡമിക വെറ്ററിനറി കോളേജായ ദി ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് വെറ്ററിനറി മെഡിസിൻ 1771 -ൽ സ്ഥാപിച്ചത് ജൊഹാനാണ്.
