== ചരിത്രം ==

ഷിന്റോ മതത്തിന് പ്രത്യേക സ്ഥാപകരോ, ആദ്യകാല ലിപികളോ, ഇല്ല. 712 CE -യിൽ എഴുതപ്പെട്ട ജപ്പാന്റെ പുരാതന എഴുത്തുകളായ ''കോജിക്കി'' യിലും,  720 CE  യിൽ എഴുതപ്പെട്ട ''നിഹോൻഷോക്കി'' യിലും ജപ്പാന്റെ ആദ്യകാല വിശ്വാസങ്ങളെപറ്റി പ്രതിപാതിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
