"സോബ്ര ദ ഗ്രീക്ക്" ,"[[ലോറൻസ് ഓഫ് അറേബ്യ"]],[[ഫെല്ലിനി|ഫെല്ലിനിയുടെ]] "[[ലാ സ്ട്രാഡ]]" തുടങ്ങിയ നിരൂപകപ്രശംസയും വാണിജ്യവിജവും നേടിയ പല ചിത്രങ്ങളിലും അദ്ദേഹം വേഷമിട്ടു. രണ്ട് പ്രാവശ്യം ഏറ്റവും നല്ല സഹനടനുള്ള [[അക്കാദമി അവാർഡ്]] അദ്ദേഹം നേടി. ആദ്യത്തേത് 1952 ലെ "വിവ സാപ്റ്റ!" എന്നതിലും പിന്നീട് 1956 ൽ "ലസ്റ്റ് ഫോർ ലൈഫ്" എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ അഭിനയത്തിനും.
