രണ്ടാം ലോക മഹായുദ്ധ കാലത്ത്, ജപ്പാനീസ് അധിനിവേശകാലത്ത് യുദ്ധകുറ്റവാളികളെ ഇവിടെ തടവറയിലാക്കിയിരുന്നു..<ref name="star"/>
1986ൽ പുഡു ജയിൽ വളയൽ നടന്നു. ഈ സംഭവത്തിൽ ഒരുകൂട്ടം തടവുകാർ ജയിൽ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരിൽ രണ്ടു പേരെ ആറു ദിവസത്തേക്ക് ബന്ധികളാക്കി. മലയേഷ്യൻ പോലീസ് ജയിലിലേക്ക് കുതിച്ചെത്തി പ്രശ്നം പരിഹരിച്ചു. അവർ ആരുടേയും ആളപയാമില്ലാതെ തടവുകാരെ ഒതുക്കി ബന്ധികളെ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തി.
