സിന്ധൂനദീതട സംസ്കാരം പുഷ്കലമായത് ക്രി.മു. 2600 മുതൽ ക്രി.മു 1900 വരെയാണ്. ഇത് ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിൽ നഗര സംസ്കാരത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു. പുരാതന സംസ്കാരത്തിൽ [[ഹാരപ്പ]], [[മോഹൻജൊദാരോ]] തുടങ്ങിയ നഗര കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളും (ഇന്നത്തെ പാകിസ്താനിൽ) [[ധൊലാവിര]], [[ലോഥാൽ]] എന്നിവയും (ഇന്നത്തെ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ) ഉൾപ്പെട്ടു. സിന്ധൂ നദി, അതിന്റെ കൈവഴികൾ എന്നിവയെ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചായിരുന്നു ഈ സംസ്കാരം വികസിച്ചത്.
