പ്രാചീന സ്രോതസ്സുകളിൽ ഒറിയോണിനെ പറ്റി വിധ കഥകളാണ്‌ പറഞ്ഞ് കാണുന്നത്.പ്രധാനമായും ഒറിയോണിന്റെ ജനനത്തെ സംബന്ധിച്ച് രണ്ട് കഥകളും മരണത്തെ സംബന്ധിച്ച് പല കഥകളുമാണ്‌ ഉള്ളത്.വളരെ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട രേഖകളിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജനനം ബിയോഷിയിലെവിടെയോ ആണ്‌.ചിയോസ് അദ്ദേഹം സന്തർശിച്ച് തന്റെ അപ്പൻ എനോപി​‍ാൺ കാരണം അന്ധനായ മെറോപ്പയെ കണ്ടിരുന്നു. എമ്നോസിൽ വച്ച അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കാഴ്ച്ച വീണ്ട്കിട്ടി.<ref>''Oxford Classical Dictionary''.
