അദ്ദേഹം, [[അല്ലെന്റെ നിയമം]] എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന നിയമത്തിന്റെ ഉപജ്ഞാതാവാണ്.
ഉഷ്ണരക്തമുള്ള ജന്തുക്കളുടെ ശരീരം കാലാവസ്ഥയ്ക്കനുസരിച്ച് രൂപവൈവിധ്യം പ്രാപിക്കുന്നു. ചൂട് കാലാവസ്ഥയിൽ ജീവിക്കുമ്പോൾ ചൂട് പുറത്തുപോകാനായി അവയുടെ ശരീരത്തിന്റെ ഉപരിതലവിസ്തീർണ്ണം കൂടുന്നു. എന്നാൽ, ചൂടിനെ സംരക്ഷിക്കാനായി തണുത്ത കാലാവസ്ഥയിൽ ഉപരിതലവിസ്തീർണ്ണം കുറയ്ക്കുന്നു. ഇതാണ് അല്ലെന്റെ നിയമം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്.
==ജീവചരിത്രം==
അല്ലെൻ ജനിച്ചത് അമേരിക്കയിലെ മസാച്ചുസെറ്റ്സിലുള്ള സ്പ്രിങ്ഫീൽഡിലാണ്. ഹാർവാഡ് സർവ്വകലാശാലയിൽ ലൂയിസ് അഗാസ്സിസ്സിന്റെ കീഴിലാണ് അദ്ദേഹം ഗവേഷണം നടത്തിയത്. 1865ൽ [[ബ്രസീൽ|ബ്രസീലിൽ]] ഐസ് യുഗത്തെപ്പറ്റി ഗവേഷണം നടത്താനായി അഗാസ്സിസ്സിന്റെ കൂടെ പര്യവേക്ഷണാർഥം പോയി.
1871ൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അമേരിക്കൻ അക്കാഡമി ഓഫ് ആട്സ് ആൻഡ് സയൻസിന്റെ ഫെല്ലോ ആയി തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു.
1899ൽ അദ്ദേഹം മരിച്ചു.
