Woods|publisher=Twenty-First Century Books|year=2008|pages=26–8|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=nV2lycRCxPQC&pg=PA27&dq=Persepolis+means&hl=en&sa=X&ei=hY84U-beC6a-sQTM_IH4Dw&ved=0CEIQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=Persepolis%20means&f=false}}</ref> അക്കെമെനൈഡ് സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ (ca. 550–330 BCE) തലസ്ഥാനം ആയിരുന്നു പേർസെപൊലിസ്. ഇന്നത്തെ [[ഇറാൻ|ഇറാനിൽ]] ഷിറാസ് നഗരത്തിൽ നിന്നും എഴുപത് കിലോമീറ്റർ വടക്ക്കിഴക്കാണ് ഈ നഗരം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ പ്രാചീന നഗരത്തിന് 515 BCE വരെ പഴക്കമുണ്ട്. അക്കെമെനൈഡ് വാസ്തുവിദ്യ പ്രകാരമാണ് ഈ നഗരം നിർമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.
