1638 മുതൽ പോർട്ട് ലൂയിസ് ഒരു തുറമുഖ നഗരമായിരുന്നു.1735 മുതൽ ഫ്രഞ്ച് സർക്കാരീൻെസർക്കാരിന്റെ കപ്പൽ നീരീഷണനീലയംനീരീക്ഷണനിലയം മൌറിഷ്യസീൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചീരുന്നു. ഫ്രഞ്ച് കപ്പലുകൾക്കപ്പലുകൾക്ക് ഏഷൃ,യൂറോപ്യൂറോപ്പ് യാത്രകൾ പ്രതീക്ഷയുടെ മുനമ്പ് വഴിയാക്കുന്നതിനായീരുന്നീതുവഴിയാക്കുന്നതിനായിരുന്നിത്.രാജാവ് ലൂയിസ് xv ൻെ ബഹുമാനാർത്ഥമാണ് പോർട്ട്‌ ലൂയിസ് ആ പെരുലഭീച്ചെതുപേരു ലഭിച്ചത്.
