ടൂറിസം, വനനശീകരണം, കാട്ടുതീയ്, സമീപപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ കൃഷിരീതികൾ, എണ്ണക്കുഴലുകൾ എന്നിവ പാന്റനാലിന്റെ സ്വാഭാവിക ആവാസവ്യവസ്ഥയ്ക്ക് ഭീഷണിയാണ്. പ്രദേശത്തെ സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി 1981 ൽ ചതുപ്പുനിലത്തിന്റെ 1350 ച.കി.മീ. ഭാഗം പാന്റനാൽ മാത്തു ഗ്രോസെൻസ് നാഷണൽ പാർക്കായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.
