1851 ൽ ബ്രിട്ടണിലെ വിക്ടോറിയ രാജ്ഞി ലണ്ടനിൽ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച വ്യവസായ പ്രദർശനമാണ് '''1851 ലെ മഹത്തായ പ്രദർശനം''' (The Great Exhibition) എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. സ്പിന്നിംഗ് ജെന്നി, പവർ ലൂം, ലോക്കോമോട്ടീവ്, ടെലിഗ്രാഫ്, ടെലിഫോൺ, പ്രിന്റിംഗ് പ്രസ്സ് തുടങ്ങി അന്നു വരെ കണ്ടുപിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന എല്ലാ യന്ത്രങ്ങളും അവിടെ പ്രദർശിപ്പിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. വിദേശത്തുനിന്നുൾപ്പെടെ ആയിരക്കണക്കിനാളുകളാണ് ആ പ്രദർശനത്തിലേക്കെത്തിയത്. ബ്രിട്ടണിലെ സാങ്കേതികജ്ഞാനത്തിനും സാങ്കേതിക വിദഗ്ധർക്കും ലോകത്തിലെ വിവിധ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ആവശ്യക്കാരുണ്ടായി. <ref>{{cite book|title=സാമൂഹ്യശാസ്ത്രം, എട്ടാം ക്ലാസ് പാഠ പുസ്തകം ഭാഗം 2|year=2009|publisher=കേരള സർക്കാർ|pages=130}}</ref>
