1888 നവംബർ 11 ആം തീയതി ഇസ്ലാമിക പുണ്യ നഗരമായ [[മെക്ക|മെക്കയിലാണ്]] ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജനനം. മാതാവ് അറബ് വംശജയാണ്; ബംഗാളിയായ പിതാവ് ഒന്നാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധക്കാലത്ത് ഇന്ത്യ വിട്ട് മെക്കയിൽ കുടിയേറിപ്പാർത്തു. അവിടെ വച്ച് വിവാഹിതനായ അദ്ദേഹം 1890 ൽ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തി.
