റിസാറ്റ്-1 എന്നത് '''റഡാർ ഇമേജിങ്ങ് സാറ്റലൈറ്റ്-1''' എന്നതിന്റെ ചുരുക്കപ്പേരാണ്. ഇന്ത്യൻ ബഹിരാകാശ ഗവേഷണ സംഘടന നിർമ്മിക്കുന്ന റിസാറ്റ് ശ്രേണിയിൽ പെട്ട ഒന്നാമത്തേതും എന്നാൽ രണ്ടാമതായി വിക്ഷേപിക്കുന്നതുമായ ഉപഗ്രഹമാണിത്. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ചതിൽ വച്ച് ഏറ്റവും ഭാരം കൂടിയ വിദൂര സംവേദന ഉപഗ്രഹമാണ്.
ഏതു കാലാവസ്ഥയിലും, മേഘങ്ങൾ മൂടിയാലും, രാവും പകലും ഭൂമിയെ നിരീക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിന് സി-ബാന്റ് സിന്തറ്റിക് അപ്പെർച്ചർ റഡാർ (SAR) ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.
