[[അമേരിക്കൻ ഐക്യനാടുകൾ|യുണൈറ്റഡ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ്സിന്റെ]] പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ പ്രദേശത്തുള്ള ഒരു സംസ്ഥാനമാണ് '''മൊണ്ടാന'''. സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഭാഗത്ത് അനേകം മലനിരകളുണ്ട്. ഇവയും മദ്ധ്യ ഭാഗത്തെ ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ട മലനിരകളും ചേർന്നുള്ള 77 മലനിരകൾ റോക്കി മലകൾ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രപരമഅയ പ്രത്യേകത സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ പേരിലും നിഴലിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. സ്പാനിഷിൽ മൊണ്ടാന എന്നാൽ മല എന്നാർത്ഥം. വിസ്തൃതിയിൽ നാലാം സ്ഥാനത്തുള്ള ഈ സംസ്ഥാനം എന്നാൽ ജനസംഖ്യയിൽ 44-ആം സ്ഥാനത്താണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ ജനസാന്ദ്രതയിൽ പിന്നിൽ നിന്നും മൂന്നാം സ്ഥാനത്താണ്.
